Ambulance Station Project

Our Ambulance Station Project, announced by President Les at our anniversary dinner, received a major boost from a public meeting on March 29.

More than 80 residents attended the meeting and, after hearing the speakers, voted unanimously to proceed with the next phase of the Project.  The emphasis on this stage will be gathering signatures throughout April from residents, not only of Bundanoon, but also of the southern villages. The petitions will then be presented to the appropriate Minister in the new NSW government.

Speakers at the public meeting, which received widespread media coverage, both before and after the event, included Inspector Peter ROWLANDS of the NSW Ambulance Service, Warren BOON, President of the Health Services Union, Western Sydney division, and PCC Franz MAIRINGER OAM, of Kangaroo Valley Lions Club. Our own president, Les JOHNSON, chaired the meeting after being introduced by PDG Ralph CLARK, in his role as President of the Bundanoon Community Association (BCA).

Ralph, in his introduction, recounted a brief history of the Bundanoon community's efforts to improve emergency health care in the district, first with the acquisition of a defibrillator unit, along with training of operators. This was followed by the introduction of a First Response team within the local Fire Brigade; a service that is now responding to callouts at the rate of about 20 per month.

Several speakers at the meeting re-emphasised the importance of the First Responders system, and insisted that it continue as a vital backup to any ambulance presence.
